Days are gone... Ten years on from that glorious day at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre appearing as Kids in Dust and ten years more than anyone could have hoped for, Sunnyboys have today announced that their 2023 summer tour will be their last. No animosity, no musical differences, just the satisfaction of a job well done and knowing that it’s time.

Covid is a fun wrecker that’s for sure; it doesn’t like entertainment, travel or risk… and with that in mind Sunnyboys have decided to move all dates on their current tour back a little to give those in camp Sunnyboys currently affected the chance to fully recover and be in fine voice come show time. When they last toured in 2020 Sunnyboys chose the salubrious surrounds of Taronga Zoo, Melbourne’s Forum, Brisbane’s Tivoli; this time though, the band will get down and sweaty playing intimate venues more akin to their breakout year of 1981. It’s an experience not to be missed. 

Melbourne pop-rockers Even will join the fun in Sydney and Melbourne while former Screaming Tribesmen Mick Medew & Michael Charles will bring their Mesmerisers to Brisbane and Byron Bay.

The promise of the late seventies punk and new wave movements ushered in the most fertile time in Australia’s musical development. Venues were bursting at the seams with Sydney leading the charge as the cultural centre. Only London could have matched Sydney at the time for the sheer volume and diversity of what was being produced. From these inspired times a few bands managed to rise to the top, taking their sound further than most and more importantly, engaging generations of new followers years after that initial spark. We first posted on 29 March 2012 hoping to catch up with the few hundred other members of the original Sunnyboys Fan Club from the 1980s - to share some stories and photos.
